[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Protocols for Presentation/Application Layers?

geraci@rex.cs.tulane.edu (Bart Geraci) (04/08/89)

Hello.

I am doing some research on the presentation & application layers.
I am searching for references for proposed protocols (both
formal and informal) for these two layers. I have Tanenbaum's
"Computer Networks" (2nd ed.) and I have become familiar with ASN.

If anyone has any references or knows of papers available via ftp,
 please e-mail them to me.

Many thanks.

you might try the CCITT Blue Book Recomendations (1988) Series
X.200, in particular X.219 "Remote Operations: Model, Notation, and
Service Definitions," and X.229 "Remote Operations: Protocol Specifi-
cations."

The very same standards recommendations appear in the ISO documents,
(Draft?) International Standard ISO/IEC/DIS 9072-1.2 and ISO/IEC/DIS
9072-2.2.

There is probably much more available (I don't know where the current
ANSI T1S1 work is at the present time), but this might help you.
