[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Subnet routing using Fusion TCP/IP software

FUSION@UHHEPG.PHYS.HAWAII.EDU (FUSION) (04/21/89)

We have a problem with routing using Network Research Corp. Fusion
TCP/IP software for our VAX computer operating on VMS.
We are DEC local area cluster with a vaxstation 3600 and a vax 780.
The 3600 is our router/gateway to our campus ethernet network using
primarily TCP/IP protocol and almost all the computers are running
unix. The 3600 is also connected to our vax 780 to form a subnet.
We are class B network address.
The problem we have is the rest of the campus network do not know
about our subnet running Fusion TCP/IP software. Fusion does not
support RIP as yet. Fusion software allows designating a gateway/router
on our network to be our router (information like go to the 3600 to
get to our subnet) and also the capability for our 3600 to have
subnet proxy and proxy arb to let the network know that one can get
to our subnet through our 3600. However, when our network administrators
enter into the unix software routing table...
	"route add subnetaddrIP vax3600IP 1
This command will just sits there....is it doing RIP and our software
do not support RIP and therefore it keeps trying?
Anyhow, it will not accept this static routing entry....because it
does not get some reply I think. I tried pinging into the subnet with
subnet proxy arb on the 3600 turn on and cannot get through.
Fusion stated the set up for their software is okay.
Is there any users our there that have Fusion software running on
VAX computers and routing out/in as subnet into the unix computers
software world. Please phone or electronic mail me if anyone has
some wisdom on this.
