[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] IP security option workshop

kent@BBN.COM (Steve Kent) (04/22/89)

The April Internet Monthly Report reported plans for a workshop top
address "an IP option for commercial security." The goal of the
workshop is to explore issues associated with the creation of a new
IP option which would address security concerns that arise in the
commercial (vs. DoD) community. For example, the current RIPSO is not
designed to accommodate sensitivity labels for a variety of non-
government organizations, nor is there an infrastructure established
to register such labels and associated policies (ala' ISO/CCITT
resgitration). We may not come away from the workshop with a new
option format and all the attendant documentation, but we do hope
to explore requirements, anticipated usage patterns, formats, etc.

The workshop is being "sponsored" by the IAB and by NIST.
It is an invitation only gathering with a requirement that prospective
participants prepare and sumbit (in advance) material for presentation
during the workshop. Thus there will be no attendees who are not also
presenters.

I hope this asnwers the questions raised by Dave Miller's message
earlier this week.
