[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] NCSA Telnet problem

OWEN@DUCVAX.AUBURN.EDU (Larry Owen) (04/26/89)

This is probably pretty simple. I have a Mac II with a Kinetics Etherport
II installed, and I'm trying to bring up NCSA Telnet. I had this setup
working several months ago when I was on another (non-Internet-connected)
LAN, but never used it much. I subsequently had to replace my hard disk,
and rebuilt the new disk from software distribution diskettes rather than
from a backup.

When I try to launch Telnet, I get Ye Olde Bombe with ID = 01. I re-installed
the Ethertalk software (V1.1) that came with the Etherport II, and replaced
NCSA Telnet with a "fresh" copy from the distribution diskette (V2.1e), but
I still get the bomb. I have probably just forgotten part of the installation
procedure, but unfortunately my Kinetics documentation has not yet surfaced
after my recent move. Any ideas?

Other (perhaps) relevant data: Finder 6.1, System 6.0.2.

Any help appreciated.

I would strongly suggest obtaining a copy of NCSA Telnet for the Macintosh
version 2.2 (or the more recent beta). This is available at finer FTP sites
everywhere (most notably, FTP.NCSA.EDU [128.174.20.50]). This should help some.
