[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] TCP/IP Host Naming Conventions

dinah@shell.com (Dinah Anderson) (06/03/89)

My management is looking into the pros and cons of having naming
conventions for IP hosts. Like xysuna, xysunb, etc., where xy is a site
id. This is just an example. I can think of quite a few reasons for not
doing this (we currently have server groups with themes of some kind which
seems to be the way a lot of companies and universities are handling this.)

My question is can any one out there provide me with reasons for or against
host naming conventions. I can think of several, but don't want to present
my biases before receiving some ideas from you folks. Thanks a lot!
