We are currently in the process of evaluating Fail Safe Computer Systems, Inc.
's implementation of tcp-ip (with telnet and ftp) for connectivity with a
Tandem. If anyone has already done this and/or has used Failsafe on a
programmatic level (e.g. using UNIX 4.3BSD sockets on a Sun to "talk" with
a Guardian/TAL process on the Tandem), I'd be very interested in their
experience(s) and opinion(s) with regard to this matter. Please send me
e-mail or call me if you or anyone you know is familiar with these issues as
we'd appreciate any info/help.
We've already successfully tested "bare bones" communication over Ethernet
between a UNIX process (using ULTRIX sockets) on a DEC MicroVAX and a
Guardian process (using FailSafe) on a Tandem. Right now, we're interested
in finding out things like the quality of documentation, software/hardware
support, error recovery, bugs, ease of programming, etc.
Again, any experience in the use and testing of these things would be
appreciated. Please contact me in any of the ways listed below if you can
help.
