[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] DECWRL missing from HOSTS.TXT

vixie@decwrl.dec.com (Paul A Vixie) (07/02/89)

So, here I am using comp.protocols.tcp-ip as a news distribution medium.
I'm afraid I have to take back all the nasty things I've thought about
other people who couldn't think of any other way to reach the IP community.
Apologies to all; I don't know how else to get this message out to the
folks who might need to hear it.

The NIC and I seem to have had a miscommunication; in the process of adding
DECWRL's net 16 addresses to the core NS records they keep for us, they
seem to have deleted our HOST entry from the latest (29-June) HOSTS.TXT.

Since there are apparently still a lot of hosts out there who don't know
about the DNS, I can only shudder to think of how much mail is being bounced.

Our address is still "128.45.9.1, 16.1.0.1". Though the next HOSTS.TXT
will hopefully contain this information, it may be a good idea for
administrators of hosts still using HOSTS.TXT to add decwrl manually -- I
don't know how long it will take for the NIC to publish the next revision.

Again, please accept my apologies for this intrusion. We now return
control of your display device to the debate over TCP keepalives, which,
IMHO, are a bad idea.
