[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] relative importance

vixie@decwrl.dec.com (Paul Vixie) (07/11/89)

Here I am again, using comp.protocols.tcp-ip as a news distribution medium
because I happen to know that everyone I want to reach happens to read this
list.

Decwrl and Gatekeeper have moved from 128.45.9.1/128.45.9.52 to
16.1.0.1/16.1.0.2. The core name servers don't know this yet (all I can do
is ask the NIC, right?) and the old addresses are cached in a lot of places.

If all the important name servers in the world were restarted, it would make
Decwrl/Gatekeeper a whole lot easier to reach :-).

Paul,

Truechimer clepsydra.dec.com (16.1.0.4) popped out of the swamps, so I
assume your gateways are compis, if not mentis; however, the path from
here (UDel) to there is rather awful, with delays running to the seconds.
It seems our paths via NSFNET are bogonite thus now, so I can report the
paths via ARPANET are hilarious, to say the most. Meanwhile, give thanks
you have your own GOES radio, since your friends out here are too noisy
to help.
