FASTEDDY@DFTNIC.GSFC.NASA.GOV (John McMahon - NASA GSFC ADFTO - 301-286-2045) (07/20/89)
Recently there was a "comparison list" posted on the merits of the various
flavors of TCP/IP for PCs and their ilk. Has anyone ever compiled a similar
item for VAX/VMS systems (and their ilk) ?
My prime concerns would be:
1 - Applications (Telnet, FTP, NFS, SMTP, FINGER, Etc.)
2 - System Overhead (Some products use a "smart" board for the lower-level IP
stuff, etc.)
3 - Standards Compliance (At least one manufacturer does not support the
format of HOSTS.TXT [argh])
4 - Nameserver support
5 - Support for connections "other than Ethernet"
If one hasn't been done... I'll work on it...
