Networking plays an important role in today's
distributed computing and in nationwide user
communities. The development and availabilitiy of
Local Area Networks (LANs), national and regional
Wide Area Networks (WANs) to interconnect the
LANs, and affordable yet powerful workstations are
helping change the users interface to
supercomputing resources.

In this Workshop, we will examine current
developments in the following areas:

*Wide Area Networks (Developments and
Infrastructure)
*New and Evolving Standards (Technology and
Environment)
*Supercomputer Performance (Benchmarks)
*Local and Wide Area Networks
Performance/Statistics
*Network Operations
*New Applications Utilizing Networks
*Network Security

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Dr. Robert Kahn, Corporation for National Research
Initiatives, will be the keynote speaker at the
Workshop. Dr. Kahn is heading up the collaborative
research effort on Very High Speed Networks,
sponsored by DARPA and the NSF. This program is
designed to involve industry and the academic
community in a cooperative effort to explore the
technology necessary for the development of a
gigabit/second research network and to
demonstrate its utility. Dr. Kahn will describe the
progress of this plan.
