[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Horsepower of IBM 8232 TCP/IP interface

DKRUGER@UALTAVM.BITNET (Dwight Kruger) (08/03/89)

Has anyone measured the horsepower in packets/second of an IBM 8232 LAN
Channel Station on ethernet? I would be interest in the host and
work-station types, ethernet load, IBM operating system on the host, etc.

Mousepower is more like it. David Lipkke of University
of Texas, Dallas, did a thing called the Texas Shoot Out
where he measured the performance of the various network
attachment units for the IBM channel. The 8232 is generally
regarded as a loser, being an IBM-PC with a channel interface
and an Ungermann-Trout Ethernet Card. The winner was the
BusTek box being both faster and cheaper than the other choices.

You might try asking the question on the IBMTCP-L@CUNYVM mailing list
where you're more likely to get informed answers. No, I do not have
the telephone number for BTI.
