Has anyone measured the horsepower in packets/second of an IBM 8232 LAN Channel Station on ethernet? I would be interest in the host and work-station types, ethernet load, IBM operating system on the host, etc. Dwight Kruger Network Software Development University of Alberta

Mousepower is more like it. David Lipkke of University of Texas, Dallas, did a thing called the Texas Shoot Out where he measured the performance of the various network attachment units for the IBM channel. The 8232 is generally regarded as a loser, being an IBM-PC with a channel interface and an Ungermann-Trout Ethernet Card. The winner was the BusTek box being both faster and cheaper than the other choices. You might try asking the question on the IBMTCP-L@CUNYVM mailing list where you're more likely to get informed answers. No, I do not have the telephone number for BTI. -Ron
