[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] IP on X.25

thomas@uplog.se (Thomas Hameenaho) (08/08/89)

I'm in need of better connections over the Atlantic. We need to be able
to talk to a lot of IP sites in the US.
I've been thinking of using IP on top of X.25, probably running on a Sun.

I need to know if it works and if there is someone in the US that can act
as a gateway between X.25 and the Internet or if there is a better solution.

Znks,

Thomas.

Thank you all for replying.
I should have said that we already have a connection to the nordunet that
works very well. However due to political reasons we are not allowed to
use it other than for mail and news. We can't even use it for mail
without restrictions as we get filtered out when we try to get outside
of the nordunet, we have to use a relay host that is not restricted.

I've talked to people in the management of the network and they said
it has been discussed but no decision has been made yet.

We are of course prepared to pay for the service and I think this could
be a way of partly financing the network. But no luck at this moment.

You guys on the other side of the big water should be grateful to
the military and the government you have that is foreseeing.
On this side we only have the greedy telecom companys and governments
that doesn't see longer than the nose reaches. No wonder that the
news in the computer business comes from your side.

Boy do I despise bureaucrats!
