[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] mail problems

kima@WSU-ENG.ENG.WAYNE.EDU (Kim N. Anderson) (08/31/89)

I am hoping that you may have some insight into this problem...

About a week and a half ago everything was functioning properly with
our mail system; it was sending and receiving mail from the Internet
and BITNET. One week ago our Multiflow Trace (7/200) OS was upgraded,
and we CEASED being able to receive mail from the Internet although we
can still receive from another network called Merit whose center is
located at U of M.

I believe the Merit network and the Internet have different classes.
Also, I know they differ in that Merit addresses always begin with
35.x.x.x.

Our system is a Multiflow Trace (7/200). It is a 4.3 BSD Unix-based
system. Our sendmail.cf file was not tampered with in any way. I
am thinking that some other files, maybe that sendmail uses, were
affected -- I'm not sure what. Also, I know that the problem is not
our mail server because none our other machines were effected.

Please respond with ANY suggestions you may have. You may send mail
to:
