I think the dozen or so articles screaming about the new mod.* groups
demonstrate perfectly why they weren't proposed to net.news.group. I've
been reading and maintaining the News here for over a year now, and it
is quite clear that net.news.group suffers from paralysis due to its
wide variety of viewpoints: for any suggestion, there are enough vocal
people who disagree with it to quash it. Things happen only when
somebody (like Mark, Chuqui, Gene, ....) decides to make it happen, and
deal with consequent attacks.

I would like to thank the self-appointed net maintainers for spending
the time and effort to keep the Usenet on its feet, despite the Netters'
best efforts. I suggest that those of us who feel left out of the
decision-making process make positive suggestions, not complain.
