[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Tranceiver cable wiring

RUBIN@GRAF.POLY.EDU (David Rubin) (09/09/89)

We are in the process of putting the DB-15 connectors on the ends of
tranceiver cable. The tranceiver cable comes with 3 22-gauge pairs and
1 20-gauge pair. Does anyone have the specification handy and can
tell me which pins should get the 20-gauge pair and which should get
the 22-gauge pairs (if it really matters).

Thanks...

From the Cabletron ST-500 booklet:

      1 Logic Ref
      2 Collision + 9 Collision -
      3 Transmit + 10 Transmit -
4 Logic Ref 11 Logic Ref
      5 Receive + 12 Receive -
      6 Power Return 13 Power
      7 N/C 14 Logic Ref
      8 Logic Ref 15 N/C

The 20-guage wire is most likely for pins 6 and 13. The 22-guage
pairs would then go to 2 & 9, 3 & 10, and 5 & 12.

BTW, Ethernet V2.0 and IEEE 802.3 specs call for four pair of 20-guage
wire.
