[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] syslog to 127.0.0.1.

Hi:

For quite some time already we are seeing syslog messages logged from
a variety of machines on the NSFNET backbone nodes. All the originating
machines appear to have the same operating system. Turns out that they send
the syslog messages to 127.0.0.1, and the campus and regional networks
then forward it to the NSFNET backbone. Could people please verify
whether their loopback interface is configured right? I personally,
for example, would not want all my mail exchanges etc. logged at
far away places without explicitly configuring it that way...
It may also be of interest to have regional and campus networks filter out
packets to 127.0.0.1.
