I have a large investment in IBM 3274 and 3174 controllers servicing three IBM mainframes. Attached to these controllers are approximately 1000 3270 terminals via Network Systems HYPERbus terminal network. Network Systems has informed us that they have frozen this product, we are therefore looking for alternatives to replace HYPERbus. In order to maintain our investment in 3274 and 3174 controllers and 3270 terminals, we are looking for alternatives which allow the controllers and terminals to be attached to either ethernet or token ring. In this scheme, as with the existing HYPERbus terninal network, any terminal can dial all of the IBM hosts. +---------+ +---------+ +---------+ | IBM host| | IBM host| | IBM host| +----+----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ +----------+ | | | | user | +----+----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ | 3270 | | 3174 | | 3174 | | 3174 | | terminal | |controllr| |controllr| |controllr| +----+-----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ | | | | +----+-----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ | magic box| |magic box| |magic box| |magic box| +----+-----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ | | | | =====+===========================+============+============+====== ethernet or token-ring (was HYPERbus) Using this scheme, users on 3270 terminals can dial any IBM host. I am aware of IBM's token-ring card for their 3174 controller, however 3270 terminals can not attach to token-ring. Also, a remote 3174-3R controller forces us to hard wire the 3270 terminals to it preventing the user from connecting to multiple hosts. We do not and cannot use VM passthrough. Does anyone make a product for either ethernet or token-ring (shown as the magic boxes in the above diagram) which would allow our 3270 terminals to dial and connect to one of a family of IBM hosts via 3174 and 3274 controllers. HYPERbus did this for us.
