[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] One-way Sun Net

allan@didsgn.uucp (didsgn) (10/26/89)

I've got a problem with my Sun SPARCStation 330. The problem is the
ethernet connection with a SYSV machine that I have (and the problem
is that it doesn't work, not that it is connected! :-). The symptoms
are that the Sun can rlogin or telnet to the SYSV machine, but the
SYSV machine cannot rlogin or telnet to the Sun. Rsh and rcp work
fine in either direction. Ftp also works in either direction. When
running telnet on the SYSV machine, the connection is opened, but the
login process is not started on the Sun. However, keystrokes get across
the net and can be seen in the I/O buffer of the telnet daemon on the
Sun. Similarly, rlogin connection is easily made, however rlogin does
some communicating with the remote daemon (on the Sun) and decides that
something is wrong and kills the connection.

I am running SunOS 4.0.3. Apparently this used to work under SunOS 3.x.
Sun support isn't much use. They just keep calling us to see if we still
have the problem, as if it was going to fix itself!

Any clues or pointers would be appreciated. Please e-mail your responses
to me.

Thanks in advance.
