[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] SNMP tools

a20@nikhefh.nikhef.nl (Marten Terpstra) (11/13/89)

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has written any snmp-tools for
'normal' BSD machines. All tools seem to be written for SUNs and the
like. I'm working with a 'normal' 4.3BSD system and there seems to be
nothing available for this.
I know I can write my own tools but I was wondering if someone already
did it so I don't have to re-invent the wheel but make some adaptions
to make it roll better.
BTW I like MIT-snmp better than CMU-snmp. (MIT runs with no problems,
CMU doesn't).

Any help whatsoever is welcome,

Thanks,

Why don't you drop a note to the SNMP list and ask the same question.
The address is:

In addition to the two commonly used public domain versions of SNMP (the
MIT and the CMU releases), the next release of the ISODE will have an
openly available implementation of a 4BSD SNMP agent. You will still
need to get NOC software, either from MIT, CMU, or one of the zillions
of companies selling SNMP-based NOCs these days. My opinion is that
whilst it is probably OK to get openly available software to run agent
code on commonly used platforms, I bet you will find it necessary to go
to a real vendor to get comprehensive NOC tools...

In retrospect, I find it difficult to believe that either the MIT or CMU
agent code, if they run on a Sun, would have problems with generic 4BSD
kernels.

Please direct all replies to the snmp list...
