It is not the hosts' protocols. Ping doesn't use TCP, and IP/ICMP should never rebroadcast. Thus the problem must be below the IP level. How intelligent are the Ether/uWave interfaces? Maybe they are too clever for their good. Have you tried putting a netwatcher/packet sniffer on each end?
