[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Echoing on Telnet Protocol via Gateways

stephen@oahu.cs.ucla.edu (Steve Whitney) (12/06/89)

Hello to you all I/O gurus,

we'd like to submit an interesting analyse/design problem concerning echo on
Telnet protocol via gateways;

In heterogeneous environments (Un*x and non-Un*x) there are 2 places where to
perform the echo function for the Un*x EndUser:
either in the Un*x machine (via line discipline (?) or the local Telnet) or in
the Telnet agent in the gateway function.

		Questions: - Are all the Un*x machines able to locally echo
			     to the terminal (via Telnet) ?

			    - Is there a risk of mixing write data (from the
			      host side) with echo of user data ?

Thanx in advance for any of your comments/suggestions.
