[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] tcpdump problem on SUN3

pccl@cbnewsd.ATT.COM (paul.c.liu) (12/12/89)

socket(AF_NIT,SOCK_RAW,NITPROTO_RAW) call in initdevice()
of tcpdump.c returns an error stating

	nit socket: Protocol not supported.

Anyone has any clue/fix for the problem mentioned?

Thanks in advance!

You didn't supply enough information... What version of the operating
system are you running? Sun has changed the NIT interface in a big way
from version 3.5 to 4.0.x. I suspect that you are attempting to run
the tcpdump executable from a 3.5 system on a 4.0.x system. If that is
the case you should try to get a new version of tcpdump from someplace.
If you are building the executable yourself, are you aware of a diff
set to enable the sources to be compiled and usable on a Sun with
SunOS4.0.x? There are a number of anonymous ftp sites with both
the executables and the diff set, but I do not have them offhand. If
you are really desperate I can send you the diff set only...

Good Luck!
