[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] BOOTP server identification

enno@labtam.oz (Enno Davids) (01/05/90)

I am about to add to the abilities of the BOOTP daemon code that we
are using around here. The specific characteristic I am interested in is
to allow the daemon to specify some host other than itself as the server
to boot from when replying to a bootp request.

Specifically, I intend to add a new keyword (e.g. sr) to the bootp database
reader and allow any machine entry to have ... :sr=nn.nn.nn.nn: ... as one
of it's fields. For reference, the code I am using came from uunet's public
area and has since seen modification for SysV.

My questions are:
    - has anybody else done this already?
    - is 'sr' a reasonable choice (if not, why not).
    - other observations or comments.
