Setup: 2 Sun-3 computers SunOS4.0.3, 2 Telebit 2500 modems, SL/IP software Problem: I can get SL/IP running in the V.32 mode of the modems, at 9600bps interface speed. When I try to run at 19200bps PEP, SL/IP will not work. Is this a problem with the Sun serial ports, PEP, or SL/IP? Has anyone else tried this? If they have, could they send me fixes and the modem register setup they are using? Knowing what SLIP is like under PEP, I think you should stop and declare victory having got them to work at 9600 V.32. :-)/2 -- Steve Dyer dyer@ursa-major.spdcc.com aka {ima,harvard,rayssd,linus,m2c}!spdcc!dyer dyer@arktouros.mit.edu, dyer@hstbme.mit.edu

When I try to run at 19200bps PEP, SL/IP will not work. If you've got T2500s, don't even bother with PEP. Higher level protocols (TCP) will work smoother over SLIP over a V.32 connection. If your T2500s have GA2.00 ROMs, then be sure to run with MNP5 with the serial interface at 19200. For the icing on the cake, use Van's recently announced SLIP w/TCP header compression. As for PEP w/SLIP; yes, I've run it (although not with a Sun running SunOS4.0.3). When rasing the speed link to 19200, be sure all points (both Suns and both modems) are set to 19200. Other than that, there is no inherent impediment with what you want to do. John -- John Robert LoVerso Xylogics, Inc. 617/272-8140x284 loverso@Xylogics.COM Annex Terminal Server Development Group
