Currently, RFC1009 is the standard for IP routers. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) will shortly be forming a working group to update and expand that standard. As we prepare to form this working group, we are curious about how the Internet community feels we may improve and expand on RFC1009. In particular: 1. Are there major topics should have been included in RFC1009 but were not? 2. Are there any superfluous major topics in RFC1009? 3. Which issues concerning IP routers are ill-defined or controversial? 4. Should the new standard emulate the style and presentation used in the Host Requirements standards (RFC's 1122 and 1123)? If not, why not, and how should we do it differently? Please mail your comments to ietf-rreq-editor@Jessica.Stanford.EDU If you wish to participate in the working group, please attend the first meeting, which will be on February 6 at the IETF meeting at Florida State University. For information about attending IETF meetings, contact ietf-request@Venera.ISI.EDU. If you wish to participate in the group but cannot attend that meeting you may join the group's mailing list by sending a request to: ietf-rreq-requests@Jessica.Stanford.EDU If you don't wish to participate but would like to receive announcements when draft versions of the document become available you may send a request to: ietf-rreq-interest-requests@Jessica.Stanford.EDU Philip Almquist Jim Forster co-chairs IETF Router Requirements Working Group
