[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Whose bridges support SNMP?

RACKLEY@MSSTATE.BITNET (Mike Rackley) (01/12/90)

We are contemplating a change in bridge vendors from Retix to some other
company. If we do so, we would like to go to a bridge that can be
monitored/managed by some of the various SNMP packages that are available.
We have looked at the Calbetron NB series bridge but have been told
that it uses Cabletron's own proprietary protocol for management. We
were also told that Cabletron would supply us the MIB, but we would
have to "write some code" to actually be able to manage these boxes
via SNMP. Does anyone have any idea how much code we are talking about
to accomplish this?

Does anyone have any recommendations for SNMP capable ethernet bridges
for under $3,000 per copy?

At this point in the evolution of SNMP, is it realistic to expect to be
able to purchase a single SNMP management package such as the one from
SUN, or the one from NYSERnet, or the one from Jeff Case's company
and be able to manage ethernet bridges/cisco terminal servers/
proteon routers/Unix boxes?

ACC's ethernet bridges/routers support SNMP. FYI

cisco Systems, Inc. makes a combination bridge router which supports SNMP.
The device can be configured to bridge IP and will still receive and reply
to SNMP queries as well as TCP/TELNET.

Feel free to drop a note to customer-service@cisco.com with any questions
about features or pricing.

Thanks,
