reuling@Navajo.ARPA (John Reuling) (02/14/86)

                         Stanford University
                    Lecturers in Computer Science

Applications are invited for positions as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer
of Computer Science. Candidates from all areas of computer science
will be considered. These two-year appointments are renewable, but
not tenure-track.

The Department of Computer Science at Stanford has recently moved into
the School of Engineering and is in the process of preparing for an
undergraduate program that will be offered starting in Fall of 1986.
The department currently has 20 full-time equivalent faculty members.
It expects to grow significantly in the next few years and is in the
process of planning a new building.

Lab lecturers will be hired to direct student projects in file
systems, operating systems, compilers, and expert systems. They will
be responsible not only for guiding students, but also for maintaining
equipment (probably DEC Microvax II workstations and TI Explorer LISP
workstations). Course lecturers will be hired to teach mainstream
courses taken by undergraduate CS majors. These courses will mostly
be sophomore/junior level, although the lecturers will have the
opportunity to teach more advanced courses if they want to. Each of
these lecturers will teach two courses per quarter.

All of the lecturers will be encouraged to participate in
undergraduate advising and curriculum planning. The Department has
been very successful in obtaining grant equipment and money for
innovative projects, and the lecturers will also be encouraged to plan
and participate in new and existing projects.

Ability and interest in teaching undergraduates is essential. An MS
or PhD in Computer Science is required. Applicants should submit a
resume and three references to:

    Stuart Reges, Assistant Chairman
    Department of Computer Science
    Building 460, Stanford University
    Stanford, CA 94305
