Hi. One group in our company is relocating to a nearby site. (Somewhere between next door and a few miles away, we're not sure.) We're used to the ethernet interconnection and wondering what would be involved in preserving some of it. What kind of hardware/software is required to run reasonably responsive TCP-IP protocols over a distance-- telnet, nntp, ftp, maybe nfs. I don't think we can afford microwave, but SLIP over a telebit won't hack it. What's in between? A leased phone line? Where do I find out the basics? Hardware, software, vendors, costs? There will probably be a Sun at the head end at each site. Thanks in advance for suggestions.... Chet -- Chet Wood ~ (408)727-3357 arc!chet@apple.COM . Broadband with bridges will give you full 10-megabit bandwidth. You may be able to contract with a local cable TV company if a cable happens to run past both of your facilities.
