We are considering the lifecycle maintenance costs associated with a large broadband network for one of our clients. My management has requested some information that I need some help on. 1) What is the average life expectancy of an active component, eg a power supply or network interface unit, if the MTBF is around 10,000 hours. 2) If the LAN is fully operational today, how much of it would have to be replaced over a 10 year period ? Over a five year period ? 3) Are there references or studies available to assist in determining the life cycle cost of various LAN alternatives, ie fiber vs. broadband vs. baseband. I know this is very little to go on, but I desperately need some help. Thanx, Ron Schultz schultz@grebyn.com 614 841-4103
