[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] A login shell called sliplogin?

uucigj@swbatl.UUCP (3531) (02/24/90)

Once again while reading a readme file that accompanied the tip with slip
program, I found a paragraph that mentioned :

related to this enhanced tip is the program "sliplogi" which will act as
a login shell for an incoming dialup slip connection.
It provides a level of authentication and control of address
assignment. It can also be used to configure an arbitrary port
if invoked by the superuser. Sliplogin is not in this directory
(tip) but is expected to be released in parallel.

Has this been released? does anyone know of the wherabouts? This sounds
like it would fit my needs to a tee and any help would be appreciated.

In my slip distribution, which I got of some.toronto.host the sliplogin
program is the part that does for me what slattach did in BSD4.3. It can
also do what you are asking for. But this part of the distribution is for
SunOs 4.0 and greater, which is sad, because this Sun can't keep up with
a 9600 bps slip connection. Well, there doesn't seem to be a sliplogin
program for anything but sunos, so you'll probably have to modify it if
you don't have a Sun. This distribution is called 'slipware' anyway.
Good luck !
