[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] 3270 terminal access

powles_dm%ncsd.dnet@GTE.COM (DREW M. POWLES) (03/01/90)

If I had an existing application running on an IBM mainframe which was accessed
by 3270 terminals, how could I go about integrating that into a new application
running on some SUN workstations on a LAN? I don't need anything fancy,
so I considered just bringing up a 3270 emulation window and talking to
the application that way. The question is then, is there software for a
SUN, and software for an IBM controller (or perhaps an add-on box from
someplace like ACC) that would allow me to attach my IBM mainframe to the
LAN, then connect to it from a 3270 emulation process in the SUN over TCP/IP
or just IP?

thanks for the help, answers to me directly or the world,

All users here have to access at least one application (a time card system)
on our IBM mainframe. We have attached our IBM to our local ethernet using
a BTI ethernet controller and run IBM TCP/IP software. The Sun users just
invoke tn3270 to fire up a full-screen telnet session with the IBM application.
