Hello - I am attempting to develop metrics to be used in network engineering for multiprotocol LANs and WANs. These metrics would help define Level-of-Service commitments, identify performance problem areas, and confirm problem resolution. I assume that the metrics would have to be statistically based, due to the contention based networks and protocols in use. The networks to be engineered are Ethernets with routers and point to point serial connections. The protocols are mainly XNS and TCP/IP with some DECNet and IPX. Many of the LANs have large amounts of NFS traffic. There are vast amounts of data that can be captured from cisco routers, Sun servers, Sniffers, and such, but no formal process for interpreting it. Pointers to any published papers would be appreciated, as would any comments or recommendations. thank you - tom ----------------------------------------- Thomas Herbst Network Consultant Xerox Corporation El Segundo, CA herbst.esae@xerox.com
