I have to do a project dealing with FTP for my Operating Systems course.
This is really my first time even at this kind of thing (TCP/IP, network
architecture, etc), so I am looking for a *brief* overview, with emphasis
on how FTP relates to the network.
More specifically, I'm wondering what *exactly* happens when one does a
file transfer with FTP - How the data is transmitted, through what layers
(services?), what kind of error checking and error recovery there is, etc.
Perhaps someone could briefly explain what happens, say, in an
example file transfer.
