[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] how to route between two IP nets on the same physical ethernet

tom@tnosoes.UUCP (Tom Vijlbrief) (04/09/90)

Problem:

How can I access a host on a different IP network which is on the
same physical ethernet as my own host ?

Own host: tnosoes (network izf-tno)
Other host: izfgate

I tried: route add host izfgate tnosoes 0

After which netstat -r shows:

Routing tables
Destination Gateway Flags Refcnt Use Interface
izfgate tnosoes UH 0 0 ie0
localhost localhost UH 6 895129 lo0
izf-tno tnosoes U 41 3646099 ie0

But I cannot ping izfgate !!!

What did I do wrong ?

Thanks in advance !

Tom
