[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] TCP-IP

alsip@leadsv.UUCP (Mark Alsip) (04/10/90)

Could someone please provide a brief rundown on what happens if two processes
are communicating via TCP/IP and one of them dies (crashes, terminates abnormally, etc.)

From what I've read, when a socket is closed, TCP/IP sends a zero-length
message to the partner to indicate the event. Is this true, and does it
happen if one of the processes terminates abnormally?

Any and all info appreciated.
