								[Part 2]

Next, I would like to introduce some networking activities in Korea.
Obviously, these informations must be updated now. However, this is what I
know about. One of their networks, KREONet is the National Computer Network
to provide networking services for the whole Korea R&D community. It is
developed, managed and operated by KIST/SERI. Initially, they used TCP/IP, X.25,
SNA as interim protocols. However, they were migrated to OSI thru ISODE-POSIX,
Dual Protocol Hosts, TS-Bridge, and Application Gateways.

They are interconnecting 8 cities as 9.6 Kbps and 56 Kbps leased line.
Especially, they set up T1 (1.544 Mbps) leased line between Seoul and Daeduck
Science town. They were using dialup lines or X.25 calls by using PSDN
(DACOMNET).

KREONet includes over 100 host machines such as CRAY-2S, IBM, CYBER,
VAX, SUN, etc. They are using SDN gateway services that provide connection of
CSNET, UUNET, Internet, BITNET, etc. KAIST's IP Address is "sorak.kaist.ac.kr
137.68.1.1". In Daeduck science town, they are building FDDI MAN (100 Mbps).

They had all kinds of UNIX non-STREAM/STREAM products. They are using
Informix product as their national database solution.

If I introduce one of their own systems, I might be able to tell one
system called "TICOM". It has 20 CPUs. One board has a couple of MC 68030.
They are using their own system bus (100 MB/s, 64 bits data, 32 bits address,
21 slots), 512 MB Memory, Multi I/O. They are using OSI protocols from OSIAM_C.
It has "pure" OSI stack, FTAM, X.400, X.500, VT, etc. It has STREAMS, TLI,
CLNP, TP4, SNDCP, and TCP/IP.

If you know more about OSI activities in Korea, please send an e-mail
to either "uunet!open.osia.re.kr!hwang" (OSIA Secretariat), or
"osia-all@sorak.kaist.ac.kr"

By the way, they had SC21 meeting in Seoul in May, 1990.
That's all, folks !! I hope this helps.

Now, again, I would like to ask you whether we really need to vote
in order to create a new newsgroup either "comp.protocols.migrate.to.iso" or
"comp.protocols.transition.iso", or something like that. Thanks.
