[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Wollongong TCP/IP WIN/3B 3.0 - UUCP/TCP/IP password capability?

mindel@netwrx1.UUCP (Joshua L Mindel) (06/11/90)

I'd like to use UUCP for file transfers between AT&T 3B2s interconnected
via TCP/IP.

MY QUESTION: Is there any way to specify a password in the uucico command?

The AT&T Enhanced TCP/IP WIN 3B Installation/Administration guide provides
steps to set-up UUCP over TCP/IP on a 3B2 in a trusted environment.
In this context, a trusted environment is one in which password protection
is not required.

The WIN software utilizes the standard UUCP programs and datafiles,
but disregards the chat script in the Systems file. Instead, the userid
that uucico uses to login to a remote machine is specified in the uucico
command itself (via the -u option). The password requirement on the remote end
is bypassed somehow by the WIN software. The end result is that two
nodes running UUCP/TCP/IP can establish a communications link via address and
userid only; whether or not a password is associated with that userid.

A broader question: Is there any means by which to utilize passwords in
UUCP/TCP/IP communications? uucico seems the most obvious place to me.
