I would like to get a little clearer understanding about using a SL/IP
connection between a PC and a Sun using a 2400 baud modem. If I get
a version of ka9q for the PC and I use the sliplogin for the Sun will I
be able to make the connection and use say; ftp or telnet? Which
binary of ka9q for the PC do I need? (net.exe?). Is there a version of
slip available that allows dialout from the PC? Am I correct in the
understanding that to get ka9q to get connected to the Sun over the
2400 baud modem that I have to use another comm package to actually
dial the phone and get the connect, then back out of the comm package
without hanging up and startup the ka9q program? On the Sun side, I
have a program that can be used as the program to be started after
logging in named sliplogin. I have added the appropriate parameters to
the kernel and have successfully built a new vmunix. I tried the
example test situation according to the following:
stty -tostop
sliplogin 192.12.180.1 192.12.180.2 < /dev/ttya &
sliplogin 192.12.180.2 192.12.180.1 < /dev/ttyb &
with a short cable with the appropriate wires crossed. As soon as I
start one it finishes, which I thought was supposed to continue until
killed. Am I supposed to have something else running? Is this all
that I need to let my PC communicate (other than the modems)? Is there
a better PD slip package, for both PC and Sun?
To top this off is there a PD package available to accomplish an NFS
mount on the PC? I would like to find out if the PC-NFS is possible
over a serial line (via modem, not direct connect) and if it someone
has donated it to the Public Domain. Otherwise if this is possible
what is the cost of such a program?
Excuse these somewhat overpublished questions, but I have not been able
to see the answers to all of these questions in one place. The basic
question - what are the steps necessary to to accomplish this situation
(connecting PC to Sun via modem using slip)?
