[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] What is tn3270?

SSJACK@ECUVM1.BITNET (07/03/90)

What sort of animal is tn3270? Is it a standard protocol defined by
an RFC? What are its origins?

Thanks for you help.

TN3270 refers to an implementation of the Telnet protocol in which both
parties agree to use the native 3270 byte stream to represent the host
and terminal data. The agreement to use 3270 mode is done by standard
Telnet option negotiations. A defacto standard exists for this option
negotiation, but has never been defined in an RFC, although a proposed
replacement has (see RFC 1041; don't know as it has been implemented).
