[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Router Experiences Requested: Wellfleet vs. Cisco

scooter@genie.UUCP (Scooter Morris) (08/23/90)

Hi,
We are in the process of evaluating routers for our network,
which is a reasonably complicated one. We currently use IP
(of course), XNS, Ethertalk, Decnet, etc., etc. We have a
Cisco which is performing quite well, but seems much more
expensive than the competing Wellfleet models. We would
like to get input from user's of both of these routers about
the company's responsiveness, the performance, and the
capabilities of the routers. Our eventual goal is to
use these routers to form an FDDI backbone and to route
	onto multiple ethernets.

	Thanks in advance,

We have a Wellfleet router in our support area at FTP Software. We
initially had some difficulty getting it configured, but Wellfleet
was very helpful. They updated our software, and now the router
works well.

We are routing ethernet to Token Ring. Unfortunately, our ethernet
is not very busy yet, so I cannot give you much information about
the performance of the router under stress. However, I can tell
you that they have been very responsive to our difficulties, even
ones that turned out to be our own fault.
