*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH YOUR SMART REMARKS *** > In response to the referenced posting, I am asking that the net > be polled as to whether postings of this nature should be allowed > to continue. Welll... Since you ASKED.... I, for one, like net.jobs just the way it is. I enjoy reading *ALL* the postings. (although I usually 'n' MDEE's articles, their presence doesn't bother my conscience none). It seems to me that in requesting this poll that the phone lines are gonna get a whole lot more clogged with "Yea,-I-think.." articles than they are with "I-wanna-hire-you" articles, ya know? This is silly, I think some people just gotta gripe about something or they're not happy. The users of the 'net' are comprised of individuals (this should be no suprise to anyone). What's usefull and amusing to one person is going to really peave the next, but *HEY*, that's life. OK? I don't always get my own way either, but I try not to whine about it! Besides, you can ALWAYS unsubscribe to the group if ya can't stand it. And speaking of polls, do ya think all this DISCUSSION belongs in net.jobs??? ** Send spelling & grammar flames to /dev/null ** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This could not POSSIBLY be the opinion of my employer, I do not think they even KNOW I have an account on this system! I understand net etiquette as excluding postings which are intended for commercial gain, but that a single posting of a new product announcement is allowed (not repeated monthly, though, for example). Perhaps this could be bent to allow special exceptions, when it is of general benefit to the net at large. I found mdee's posting quite unoffensive, giving a brief announcement of a job not unlike others posted by employers. On the other hand, I despise headhunters, and would be quite pleased if every one in existence simply disappeared forever, say, tomorrow. If commercial use of the net became a problem (e.g. 35 postings per day for COBOL programmer jobs in Wretchville, Nevada) then the obvious solution is for bothered sites to cease feeding systems which feed headhunters. Marilyn Dee, do you get the hint? Joseph Albert (...hp-pcd!orstcs!joseph)

I see by your path that you are still ensconced in the ivory tower. You claim to hate headhunters. What do you know about headhunters. I assume nothing more than you have heard here on the net. First, to learn, go down to yhe placement office on your campus and check out the folks from the various companies vying for your attention. They are all headhunters. It makes no difference where they come from, they are all headhunters. As a student, those characters down at the placement office are just about your only hope of gaining employment. Now, say you wish to change jobs. How should you try to get the new company to recognize you? Send a resume to the personnel department? Lots of luck. Nintey percent of the resumes sent to personnel departments are round-filed. On the other hand, many personnel departments engage headhunters to screen resumes before they see them. If your credentials are what the company is looking for, your chances of getting in for an interview are very high. Otherwise, its hit or miss. I have always worked through "headhunters" and have never had any regrets. Neither have I ever had to pay any fees. AS far as headhunters on the net are concerned, I say keep it up. Any company that is looking for personnel and depending on finding them on the net has a mighty small chance of finding what they need. Headhunters provide a wider audience for a company and a better chance of getting the person they want. T. C. Wheeler
