RFC 1033 (Domain Administator's Operations Guide) states

    ... only the following characters are recommended for use in
a host name (besides the dot separator):

	"A-Z", "a-z", "0-9", dash and underscore

On the other hand, RFC 1034 seems to disallow (or rather discourage) the
use of the underscore (grammer given on page 11).

What are the true rules?
