[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] IBM 9000 TCP/IP, lpr?

wls@csd4.csd.uwm.edu (Bill Stapleton) (10/03/90)

Another campus entity is looking into purchasing an IBM 9000 system, which
would run VM, and comes with some sort of TCP/IP package. They want to be
sure it works with our (BSD) network, especially for printing. Does anybody
know if it's possible for an IBM 9000 VM system to talk Berkeley lpr protocol?
Any information is most appreciated.

IBM's TCP/IP Version 2 for VM product, due out at the end of the year,
includes an LPR client and LPD server. They have been written to
interoperate with 4.3 LPR/LPD and work fine.

If you're running our Version 1 product, I believe there is at least one
LPR/LPD implementation available, from Columbia University. I believe it
is free, but you'd have to contact them directly.
