[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] SLIP with Named Pipes

alexb@cfctech.cfc.com (Alex Beylin) (10/06/90)

First, thanks to everyone for many helpfull responces regarding
SLIP and Named Pipes.

From the responces I see that more details are in order. What ww would like
to do is allow users with portable computers and modems to user DCA's
CommServer in order to access 3090 resources. As James Van Bokkelen
pointed out, we have to use Lan Manager. CommServer can use a number
of APIs, but Named Pipes seems the cleanest. In order to carry it all
the way to the PC we will need NetBios and SLIP software on the PC.

The solution seems to be cisco SLIP concentrator and PC/TCP (Thank you,
James). We will be running tests late October. I will post results
to this group.

Again, thanks to everyone for all the help.
