[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] telnet & rlogin set /dev/ttyp* mod differently

larry@focsys.uucp (Larry Williamson) (10/09/90)

people that rlogin to machines here have their /dev/ttp* entries mod's
set differently. In particular, if one telnets, then /dev/ttyp* is set
with mod 111, whereas if one logs in with rlogin, then it is set 666.

Why is this? How can I define what the setting should be? I don't want
to put chmod commands in /etc/profile or the user's profiles.

the systems involved here are Interactive's 386/ix 2.2. Rlogins and
telnets are from many different types of machines and terminal
servers.
