[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Protocol analyzer

BIWINE@vassar.BITNET (10/14/90)

Is anyone aware of pd software that would turn a workstation (U*ix, VMS,
MS-DOS, or Mac) into an Ethernet protocol analyzer?

Thanks for your help.

Bill,

A quick scan of RFC 1147 did not turn up a product that would exactly
satisfy your request. There is, however, a publically available
package that monitors ethernet traffic and displays header fields.
It's called "Netwatch".

According to RFC 1147, Netwatch is available as a utility program in the
pcip distribution from host husc6.harvard.edu, in directory pub/pcip.
Its also available as a standalone package from windom.ucar.edu,
in file pc/network/netwatch.arc. (A binary "dearc" program is also
available from windom.ucar.edu.)
