    BBN and Stanford did experiments using Butterfly gateways about two
years ago.  We also did experiments with the publicly available multicast
code for BSD from Stanford.  (I don't know where the current multicast
code is on-line, however, it will appear in 4.4BSD).

    The experiments involved trying to do multicast routing over large
areas.  The answer is, you can do it, and SPF looks like the better base
on which to build.
