[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] At wits end with Xenix <--> SunOS Noninterop

nelson@SUN.SOE.CLARKSON.EDU (Russ Nelson) (11/16/90)

Can anyone give me some hints as solve my problem with Xenix <--> SunOS
NONinteroperability? I can always telnet between the two hosts, but when
I try to ftp between them, I get big troubles. The transfer never gets
more than 100 KB through. BUT, when I use KA9Q as a midpoint (do
SunOS to KA9Q to Xenix), it works just fine. So clearly both systems
are capable of transferring tens of megabytes over a single TCP
connection. They just can't talk to anyone else.

Now, I would look at the packets, but trpt says "tcp_debx=0", and the
manual claims this is an "other message which should be self explanatory."
Ha, programmers are such wags.

The really strange part is that the problems aren't seen when transferring
data *from* the Xenix system, it's when you try to transfer data *to* the
Xenix system.

There, I just went away and pushed 1.5 MB from the Xenix to the SunOS,
and I can't even get 40 KB from the SunOS to the Xenix. Can someone
please tell me what to look at? Oh, and please send me mail, as I
normally read this group via news, and news is what's NOT running on
the Xenix system. All the news junkies at Clarkson are on my back
about it...
