[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] TCP/IP Channel Problem

BINGZHI%ICNUCEVM.CNUCE.CNR.IT@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU (Bingzhi Li) (11/24/90)

Hi, all.
I am working o TCP/IP, to develop the interactive file accessing
system between IBM/VM and VAX/VMS hosts. The problem is how to deal
with the virtual channel if the client process asking files from the
remote hosts will take a long time.

One solution is that client waits for the requested files coming
after sending the request commands. Another is that the client don't
wait for the files coming, and quit the interactive accessing state
(but the channel is alive), after sending the request commands. How
to deal with this problem if the waiting time is very long ?

I think someone have the experience on this problem. Wish to hear
from some good ideas. Thank you in advance !
