[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Telnet option negotiation

adrienne@nodecg.ncc.telecomwa.oz.au (adrienne byrd 4208172) (11/22/90)

For some time now we have been curious about what we think are called
"telnet options". We are using NCSA Telnet 2.2 to talk to Xenix boxes with
Excelan's LAN WorkPlace package. I've noticed that when running NCSA Telnet
I often get "telnet option 254 1" type messages.

Further investigation in the Excelan manuals reveals that there is a
"telnet command"

	iac n1 n2 ...

where n1, n2 specifiy the decimal number of the command. The manual gives
the example

	iac 254 1

as being the equivalent of telnet's DONT ECHO command.

Could someone please post a list of these such numbers and what they mean in
telnetese?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Telnet Options

Please see RFC 1060 page 51 for a list of Telnet Options and pointers to the
other RFC that document them.
